MANUEL'S OBITUARY
Manuel Hernandez Jr. left us to be with the God on June 5, 2022. Manuel was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 5, 1943, to Manuel Hernandez Sr. and Juanita Vasquez. He was the eldest of seven siblings, ?five sisters and 1 brother. He married Porfiria (CJ) in February 1965.
In 1966, Manuel bought a one way ticket to Flint, Michigan with prosperity in mind. He stepped off the train in a t-shirt and shorts on a 22 degree January day. He promptly found the nearest payphone to let Tio Joe know he arrived. With only $10 in his pocket he applied for employment at General Motors and was hired 4 days later. Wanting the best for his family he moved them from San Antonio, Texas as soon as he possibly could. He worked for GM for 35 years before retiring in 2001.
He built a good life for his family and loved them with all his heart. Manuel loved music, the outdoors, and cook outs. He also built a library collection with subjects spanning economics, finance, and health to name a few topics. He was very curious and loved reading. He also enjoyed working with wood, and on his home. Manuel and CJ had 3 children, Brenda, Ray (1968-2021), and Orlando.
Manuel was preceded in death by his son, Ray Hernandez (June 9, 2021); his mother, Juanita V. Hernandez (June 18, 2016); his sister, Linda Garcia (Dec. 15, 2006), and his father, Manuel Hernandez, Sr. (January 11, 2003).
Manuel is survived by his loving wife, CJ, children, Brenda Hernandez Daraiseh (Dr. Suhail Daraiseh); Orlando Hernandez (Christina Hernandez); six grandchildren: Alia Hernandez Daraiseh, Rania Hernandez Daraiseh, Miguel Hernandez, Selena Hernandez, Alex Hernandez, Mariesa Hernandez-Alexander; he is also survived by his sisters: Esperanza Gonzales, Celia Ruiz, Hermine Mata, Lucy Purkiss, and one brother Juan Hernandez; nine nieces and two nephews, and many, many cousins.
