Joyce Pauline Wray Crabtree was born on August 4, 1923 in Richmond, VA, to the late Perry Joyce Wray and Clyde Mack Wray Sr. She passed away May 17, 2018 at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach, VA
She grew up in Mt. Airy N.C.

She married Rev. James Lee Crabtree December 24, 1943. She served as a Minister's wife many years.

After retirement she resided in Narrows, VA before moving to Virginia Beach, VA. Then went on to reside at Autumn Care of Chesapeake in Chesapeake, VA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son James Adrian Crabtree, sister Myrtle Vernell Wray, sister Evelyn Wray Marshall and Brother in law Samuel Wesley Marshall Sr., brother Robert Graham Wray and Sister in Law Edith Marie Poff Wray.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Jean Crabtree of Christiansburg, VA, son, Charles Crabtree and wife Gloria of Mt. Airy N.C., Son, George Timothy Crabtree and wife Helen of Lebanon, VA, and son, Paul Crabtree and wife Dena of Va. Beach, VA. Her brother Rev. Clyde Mack Wray Jr. and wife Mary Jo Walker Wray of Jacksonville, Fl. 10 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren.

She was a Loving wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend
The family will receive friends Sunday May 20th from 5 to 8 PM at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows. Funeral services will be held Monday May 21st at 12 noon in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service with Rev. Leon O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery in the Wolf Creek Community near Narrows. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider Hales Chapel United Methodist Church; 3901 Wolf Creek Road; Narrows, VA 24124. For those of you that we have not conversed with in the last two days, Kermit Jackson, Father of Gloria Jackson Crabtree, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

The Funeral arrangements have now been made as follows:

Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, VA.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, VA

I spoke with my Aunt Gayle Wray Orange last week. She confirmed that the picture was in mid fifties, probably after Luther's funeral. She confirmed the order was Clyde, Earl, Russell, Ralph, Howard and Victor. She said Uncle Luther had a stroke in the 40's and passed in 1955.
I am attaching a scanned copy of a enlarged photo that was hanging over my grandfathers (Ralph) mantle of his father, Robert Marion Monroe Wray, during the Spanish American War. My Aunt Gayle has a copy of his discharge papers. I think Myrtle had the original. I have the large version of the photo attached now hanging in my living room. I didn't see it on your page so I thought you might like to have it. I will also get with Gayle as soon as I can to get scanned copy of Victor in the military uniform photo. I'll send more photos as I can get them scanned. I'll keep in touch.

Wray 0008 - I have a letter in her hand writing that gives her husband's birth and death dates, also her birth date. She is buried in Midkiff Cemetery (Find-A-Grave Memorial # 96276340)in Mount Airy. I was a Pallbearer for this funeral.
It was the day after a very bad snow storm so that they could not actually take her to the cemetery until at least later in the afternoon or even on a later date. The weather had cleared that day so I drove to Mount Airy from Columbia, S.C. to attend the funeral. The weather threatened to turn bad again the next day so I drove home right after the service in the funeral home.

Parry worked in a textile mill in Mt. Airy.
