It all came through this time. You've followed the descendants of R. L Fry right up 'til today. I guess we parted company when I followed Absalom Fry and you took up with Nehemiah.

You may have left much of this out on purpose but:

P.1 John, Jacob, Peter, Adam, and Henry were all born in Bethania, NC

Michael was born in Bethabara, NC.

Valentine Frey married Mary Katharine Yonce (or Younce)

Joseph Frey married Mary Amis

Jordan may also be spelled Jourdan.

I show a Maria Barbara Frey being born 6/24/1777 in Bethania. She's missing from your group---but maybe she should be. Let me know so I can remove her.

P. 2 No. 9 is the troublesome Valentine Frey (Fry on his tombstone). Would you want to put the "III" in to separate him from the other Valentines? That's also on his tombstone so it can't be far off. Not sure what your readership is for this tree, but I've come to appreciate having specific burial locations, in this case Cripple Creek, in case someone wants some day to go see.

If you want to put burial places in, then Hiram is buried in Evergreen Cemetery (I think Cripple Creek), and Absalom is buried in Pearisburg, VA.. Nehemiah is also buried in Cripple Creek

Absalom (with an "m") Slimp---may also be spelled Slemp

Abraham died 3/21/1844 in Bland County.

I believe that Jane Fry had also a Mary in front of the Jane. She was born 1/4/1829 and died 9/14/1808 (in TN)

Mary Jane married Porter____ on 12/28/1848

P. 3 Nehemiah and Lucinda Eastwood had a total of 13 children. You show only Robert Lee Fry which is fine if you're showing the direct line.

Robert Lee Fry is buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Cripple Creek, VA.

Here's where we part trees. I have no data from your fifth generation on. I'm sure you left some of that stuff off on purpose so forgive me for mentioning it. Your presentation is easy to read and that's always nice. Thanks for sharing it with me You've been a great help.

If I get any more data to secure the relationships or fill in missing dates or whatever, I'll be sure to send it on to you and I hope you'll do the same.

Subject: slight spelling correction request

Hi David -

This is BETTY Lois Davis, daughter of William Levi Davis and Gerthie Clytie Muckleroy. Actually just Gerthie is ok for my mother, but I would appreciate it if you could change the spelling of my name FROM Bettie Lois Davis TO Betty Lois Davis. Small matter. If you don't get around to it, that is ok. Maybe the next time you replace it, you might fix that. I actually need to look over your database and see if I have any other corrections.

Since my aunt, my father's sister, died this year, I'm sending a group sheet for the family.

Unfortunately, time is short this time of year.

I hope you have a nice Christmas.

Betty Stokes in Houston

Burial (4 Jan 1971): Tombstone, Old Salem Cemetery located near County lines

Research Notes (Aug 2007): ARCHIE OLIVER DAVIS

As I remember, Granddaddy Davis was a quiet, slow moving man. When he talked and needed to take a slight break to get his thoughts together, he said "and er uh."

I was told his mother spoke the same way. He had a twinkle in his eye. I don't
remember his farming all that much because we usually arrived in the middle of
the day and he was not a young man any more. In earlier days, he farmed and had cows and chickens with Aunt Myrtle on the farm they had after WW II was over. Later, he had a garden and raised cows and took milk and produce into town to sell it.

My Aunt Adarene, my mother's sister, married George Van Burrows. George was a
teller at a Bank in Nacogdoches. When Granddaddy went to do banking, he always
waited in George's line. I think they asked about each other's families.

George thought a lot of him. His house was near the Burrows farm.

Other than visiting Granddaddy and Grandmother Davis, I don't remember much
other than what I was told. I do remember going out there when he was up in
years and he was up on the roof making repairs. He had to stop when he had a
slight heart attack. Aunt Myrtle said he went out West I think she said and worked as a clerk in a store a relative ran. It might have been Uncle Johnny, but I'm not sure. West was anything west of Nacogdoches but it was probably more like San Antonio.

He was the oldest of 10 children, the son of John Oliver Davis and Amy Angeline "Angie" Britain.

I have some old pictures of the family. Some are pictures of him up on
scaffolding working on building the Excelsior School and Sardis Baptist Church.

Grandmother and Levi and Myrtle are in the picture. There is another picture of the day Sardis Baptist Church had a Baptizing in the Creek - Attoyac I think. At one time, I could figure out which one was Granddaddy.

I still have a little handmade high chair that was made for Granddaddy by his
father in 1883. I don't remember it from my childhood, but it came with me when we moved back to my Grandmother Muckleroy's after my father died. It was stored in their smokehouse until Aunt Adarene rescued it and restored it. Bugs had eaten the cowhide in the seat and she and her brother, Clifton, wove a new seat for it.

I hope you have a nice Christmas.

other than what I was told.

Bugs had eaten the cowhide in the seat and she and her brother, Clifton, wove a new seat for it.

in re: Jemina Vanhoy We've now found John Vanhoy's Will. He names as his second wife Jemina, but does not give her maiden name. One of his children is Abraham Vanhoy husband of Verlinda Boswell Marshall; father of Martin, and grandfather of John Henry Vanhoy who married his second cousin Leatha O. Marshall.

John Vanhoy owned land in Kent Co, DE, on Little Neck Creek, and we've found an Abraham Vanhoy Sr. who owned land there in the early-mid 1700s.

David, I am home now and attached is some info you may use at the Marshall
Family site. What is there is first, my wife, then me, wife's sister, her
deceased husband, her brother, his wife (second) (note the item at the
bottom regarding his wife as listed in the Marshall Family) and finally my
wife's mother and father.

Each of these individuals is currently listed in the Marshall Family. I have
other info of this nature, but do not want to waste your time with items you
don't need. Any guidance from you would be helpful.

Here are a few minor changes you might like to make:
My father was Elkanah rather than Elkanna McAlexander (it's Biblical).
My brother Aaron married Glenda Kincaid (you didn't have her maiden name).
My sister Jeanie spelled her name with only one n.
My son Thomas Watts married Jamelle Reiser (not Rinker).
Dennis McAlexander's wife Sarah spelled her maiden name Branscombe.
David Lynn Harrell (husband of Patsy McAlexander) is the son of Mahlon Harrell.
My daughter Laurie Watts's son was Joel Anderson (9-18-84 to 11-7-02).
My daughter Lucinda Watts's daughter is Lauretta Navarro Watts (1-16-88).
I could spend hours browsing through the branches. You've done a great job putting it together. Thank you!
Those Marshall genes can be really tenacious. I have a photograph of my great-grandmother Fannie Marshall McAlexander when she was nine years old that could be a picture of my granddaughter Crystal Watts at the same age.

Millie,

I am truly sorry about your brother. SO far all five of the children in my family and all five of the children in my wife?s family are still living. But we are all moving along in years.

I didn?t mean to sound disinterested in your information. In fact I am very interested in nailing down that part of my family and I would be glad to make a donation for that. Let me know how much and I will forward it. I was hoping to find children of theirs and try to contact them, but since they didn?t have any children that?s not possible.

Thank you for your kindness. I look forward to hearing from you again.

David,

I'm sorry that I haven't gotten back to you but my brother passed away on Monday & this has been a very stressful week for my family.

I have gathered quite a bit of info that I mentioned in my emails to you & you didn't seem interested in it, so I didn't know what to make of your request. Our society does research for a donation plus copy & postage costs. I cannot scan the info to you, but could mail it if that's what you want. I didn't find a copy of the 1925 OWU yearbook to find his picture in it though. We only had the 1926 yearbook in our collections.

Please advise.
Millie

Millie,

I went to the Franklin County GenWeb page and looked at the list of cemeteries. Woodlawn is not listed there. What county is it in?

Hello David,

I have found some info on your cousin, Robert K Marshall. I haven't been able to find any children yet & have talked to folks who knew them & they don't believe there were any children born to this marriage. His wife, Kathryn, was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbus & my guess was that he is also buried there. I have copied his obit from the newspaper & will also get hers if you want it - his doesn't tell where he was buried.

They were very prominent people and entertained famous people from all over; they lived in a beautiful large brick home that even had an elevator in it. The outside walls and the inside partitions were "three bicks thick". I have a picture of it for you; along with a couple of pages from a history book, his obit in Delaware & Columbus newspapers; a few newspaper articles that mention his first book, parties he attended for Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowden, and where he bequeshed money to one of the colleges he attended. This week I will see if we have the 1925 Ohio Wesleyan yearbook since he was said to have graduated that year. Might be fun to find a college picture of him, right?

I found my cousin, Robert Kossuth Marshall in your death and burial list, (April 8, 1996) but there was not a cemetery listed. Can you direct me to sources that will give me that information as well as information about his wife and children? He married Katherine Comstock. I Have a genealogy web site www.marshallgenealogy.org but I have not been able to find information about Robert K.

Thank you.

From Linda Mitchell Keeter's Facebook post August 1, 2015

Yesterday, The Cedars' deed was officially passed from our family for the first time in 176 years. On Monday we packed the last of our earthly belongings and headed to our home on the NC Coast, where we hope to retire. Beginning with our auction in 2013, The Cedars move has been a journey filled with more emotion than I can describe and wrapping up for 5 generations has been no easy physical task. My husband, Gary Keeter & I have done everything in our power to close the Marshall chapter at The Cedars with dignity. I believe we have achieved that and I know in my heart that The Colonel & other spirits of those who toiled at The Cedars understand the weight of the task that fell to me. Surely they are well-pleased. No matter where I go, I will carry the extraordinary love and loyalty of the Marshall family, especially that of my mother, Helen, Aunt Earline, Uncle Jiggs and my sweet, jolly Uncle Luke. After 31 years of beautiful country living at The Cedars, we look forward to realizing our dream of simple island living & time just for US! We are grateful to pass the baton to a new owner who brings her own dreams for the future and appreciates nature, especially fine horses - just like the Colonel.
