| 28934 | !The source document I am using for the Sparger's and allied families was assembled by the efforts of William Murlin Creasy. Even much of the information I have concerning the John Marion Marshall family came from Creasy's manuscript. It is filed in the North Carolina State Library in Raleigh, North Carolina. Even though his information only goes through 1936 it has been the most valuable single source I have. |
| 28935 | !The source document I have does not say which one of Margaret's three husbands fathered her children. It also does not give the children's last names. Just by associating their birth dates with their mother's age I surmised that they both belonged to her first husband. It is certainly possible that at least the second one could belong to her second husband. | RIMER, Margaret Louise (I2736)
| 28936 | !The source document I have has only one date associated with his name. By the context of the data it appears to be the date he married Eliza Jane Wiseley. | PARISH, James (I2635)
| 28937 | !The source document I have lists him as a "Jr." Why should that be since his father's name was given as Isaac. Perhaps both of their names are "Isaac Bernard" or "Bernard Isaac." That is just speculation. Maybe Bernard is not really a Jr. at all. | PARISH, Bernard Jr. (I2643)
| 28938 | !The source I have also has August 2, 1836 as his date of death. I don't know which is correct. | PARSONS, Nehemiah Jr. (I692)

| 28940 | !The spelling of the name is from Errol Hayes, Jr. !Marshall 0141, p. 14 !BIRTH:Hayes Family Bible; owned by Grace Hayes Williams, Boonville, North Carolina !MARRIAGE:State of North Carolina; Surry County; Office of the Register of Deeds; License for Marriage; dated June 3, 1923; Original License owned by Errol E. Hayes, Jr., Huntsville, Alabama !BURIAL:Buried in Hollywood Cemetary, Elkin, North Carolina He owned Hayes & Speas Furniture Store and Hayes & Speas Funeral Home in Elkin, North Carolina. He was engaged in the retail furniture business and as a funeral director for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Elkin First Methodist Church, a member of the local Masonic Lodge, was a past president of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association, a past president of the North Carolina Burial Association, a charter member of the Elkin Kiwanis Club, a past president of the Elkin Merchants Association, and was active in Boy Scout work and other civic affairs. From the "Funeral Association Journal", Clarence W. Andrews, Editor - Mgr., Box 253, Burlington, N. C., Volume 1, Number 4, January 1938, page 11 (copy available from Errol Edwin Hayes, Jr., 7807 Fair Circle, Huntsville, Alabama 35802, phone (205) 881-1873). "This month we salute Errol Edwin Hayes, Elkin, N. C. "In every State, City, Organization and Profession, one will find many forms of mankind, the builder . . . the leader . . . the diplomat . . . the thinker . . . the doer . . . the scrapper; and then those who are just citizens, residents and members. Once in a while one will see a man possessing one or more of the mentioned attributes, but seldom does one run across a man possessing all these fine virtures . . . but, if you will add kindliness . . . and a constant desire to see that everything in every channel is running better than true to form . . . then immediately Errol Edwin Hayes (known as Earl) comes to mind. "Born thirty-eight years ago in Boonville, he received his elementary education in Surry county, then finished the N. G. A. C., at Dalenoga, Georgia, where he majored in business engineering. After finishing his schooling, he started out to see the world . . . go places and do things. The farther he traveled from Surry county the more he became infected with the little love bug and homesickness, for he had left the finest little girl in the foothills of Blowing Rock . . . and she was waiting for his return home. The suffering and pain was too much for Earl, so he returned to Surry county and immediately asked Miss Nina Whitaker to be Mrs. Errol Edwin Hayes. At this period of his life . . . historians failed to record further data . . . some say Miss Whitaker placed Earl on a six months' probation period . . . others say twelve months . . . but it is a fact that Earl walked the chalk-line. County records record the marriage. Mr. Hayes then entered the Furniture and Funeral Directing business. "Mr. Hayes has been known for many years as among the front rank Funeral Directors of the state, and his career as helper in burial association work has added to that esteem in such a way as to build him up as a logical candidate for a certificate of leadership. His ability is well known, his urbane yet wholly sincere personality well liked and widely respected, and his intense devotion to civic matters and other public-spirited interests, outside of his work for the funeral directing profession, speaks of what caliber of man he is. "A member of the firm of Hayes & Speas, Inc., of Elkin, Mr. Hayes enjoys a wide and varied friendship among the good people of Surry and adjoining counties. Whenever you feel a desire to visit . . . and want a change of scenery pleasing to the eyes . . . some pure mountain air and water . . . drive up to see Mr. Hayes . . . your troubles will disappear . . . and you'll feel much better for having had the visit and chat." | HAYES, Errol Edwin (I1042)

| 28941 | !The yeaar of his death is unclear on my source document. It is definitely in the 1890s. | SPARGER, Raymond (I3692)
| 28942 | !Their marriage date and his middle initial came from the May, 1993 issue of The Journal of Surry County Genealogical Association, page 29. This may not be right because the Journal had his name as J. W. Creed and her name as Mary P. Marshall. It quotes Surry County, North Carolina marriage records (1869 - 1899). !Marshall 0007, p. 136 Marshall 0374 | CREED, Jefferson W. (I147)

| 28945 | !There is speculation about whether or not they were ever actually married. Never-the-less she had a daughter, America, who married William Pratt. !He is buried on the Vanhoy farm. | 28946 | !There may be an additional letter in her name. My source document has her name as "Car ter" with a smudge between the 'r' and 't'. | CARTER, Winifred E. (I3516)
| 28947 | !There may be some confusion on the birth and death date. Corbet Cochran Sr. puts the date of birth in 1875 and the death in 1907 and Marcus Allen puts the date of death on April 22 1897. Also there may be a discrepancy about the marriage. Corbet Cocran Sr put the marriage in 1898 as well as Edna Richardson. !Donald R. Cochran states that Sarah Taulbee was stabbed to death by Floyd Allen over a family arguement. Apparently Floyd Allen went to jail for a number of years. He further stated that Sarah was pretty mean to the children. It is also rumored that Sarah was Cherokee Indian. !Buried on the Allen Homestead. | TAULBEE, Sarah Etta (I24606)
