| 30701 | From: Mel & Denise Marion To: david@marshallgenealogy.org Sent: Wednesday, June 09, 2004 9:13 PM Thank you for your website. I am wondering if you would like a correction. Esther Baker was really born Esther Reed, 1832. The daughter of James Reed or Reid. She married James Baker, who died at Gettysburg. They had one daughter. Esther later married Adam Marion. The marriage certificate is Adam Marion and Esther Baker. But she was a widow. Sorry, all my information is packed away at home for a couple of years. But this is my recollection of the great grandparents of my husband MELVIN J. MARION. Also, an addition: Adam and Esther had a daughter Virginia before Robert Lee Marion. Virginia married Green Robertson. She died rather young, leaving at least three living children. Thank you, Denise Bascom Marion | MARION, Virginia (I23378)

| 30704 | From: Mike M (mlmonroe@earthlink. net) To: Sent: Sunday, June 29, 2003 10:48 PM Subject: Updates for website Mr Marshall, Charlton Pinckney Lewis' date-of-birth is uncertain, but I suspect June 1894. On the 1900 census, he was listed as born in June 1893 at the age of 6. On the 1920 census, he was listed at the age of 25. I suspect some of the confusion was related to the census being taken in June. Charlton Pinckney Lewis died in Rutherford County in March 1933. Charlton is buried at Mountain Creek Baptist, Rutherford County, NC. Charlton married Lela Queen. They did not have any children. LeIa was born 20-October-I 901 and died 7-January-1936. Lela Queen was the daughter of Adin R Queen of Rutherford County. Adin appears on the 1900 Rutherford County census in Morgan Township, district 142, sheet 3 at the age of 32. Adin appears on the 1920 census, Rutherford County, district 170, at the age of 52, and LeIa is living at home at the age of 18. | QUEEN, Lela (I40956)

She married William Fred Gibson in August 1915 and had 6 children, but I don't think it was the three that you have listed.., it looks like you've confused children with grandchildren. William Fred Gibson was born 4-JuIy-i897, died 4-June-i940, and is buried at Mountain Creek Baptist, Rutherford County, NC. Gladys is also buried at Mountain Creek Baptist, Rutherford County, NC. William Fred Gibson and Gladys Lewis's oldest son was William Lewis Gibson (as you suggest). William Lewis Gibson was married twice, and his second wife was Louise Kiser as you suggest. Louise attended the 2002 Lewis Family Reunion and I believe she is still living. William and Louise had 3 children --- you have 1 child -- Ronald Gibson. Their other 2 children are Carolyn and Doug... whom you have listed as William Lewis Gibson's siblings.., not as his children. The last that I heard, Ron, Carolyn, and Doug are all still living. | KISER, Louise (I11906)

He is also survived by brotherin-law, Ralph Sawyer (Karolynn) of Austin, TX; and by grandchildren, Dru Martin Groves, Kelee Silva, and Aimee Silva. Max was a loving husband and father as well as a dedicated career Army officer. Born in Palo Alto, CA on July 21, 1920, Max graduated from U.S. Military Academy at West Point in June, 1943. He served in World War II, Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam Conflict before retiring in 1973 after 30 years of distinguished service. His awards include a Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster (two), and Bronze Star medal. He maintained close contact with a wide circle of military and civilian friends around the world. Max was a true gentleman, appreciated for his intelligence and sense of humor. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Max Verne Talbot Sr, and Ruth Williams Talbot of New Port Richey, FL; brother, John Talbot of Columbia, SC; sisters, Ellen Lacy of St. Louis, MO and Jane Morris of New Port Richey, FL; and his first wife, Minerva E. Mary was the daughter of John Henry Vanhoy who married his second cousin Leatha Marshall. John was the son of Martin Vanhoy, son of Abraham and Verlinda Marshall Vanhoy. Verlinda was one of Martin Marshall's daughters. Leatha was a daughter of William Buchanan Marshall, who was a son of Thomas R. Marshall, a son of Martin Marshall. My father's father, John Martin Southern married first (1) Nancy B. Marshall; and married (2) her niece, Mary Vanhoy. So all of my father's half-brothers and sisters as well as his siblings are descended from Martin Marshall. Phyllis Hoots, the daughter of one of my father's nephews, a son of Nancy B. and John Martin, is the person who found the Martin Marshall cemetery in the woods. His stone is well-preserved. Our family is trying to keep this cemetery cleared off, and still hopes for permission from the owner of the land to install fencing. Without the fencing, of course, the cemetery could be bulldozed away at any time. Odessa Southern Elliott who grew up in Walkertown, NC ___________________________________________________ From: odessa elliot [mailto:odessaelliott@earthlink.net] Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2007 2:24 PM To: David Marshall Subject: My father's name Well, that's a sure sign of aging out! : ) My father was named Everette McKinley Southern by his Great-Uncle Joe Marshall who was back in NC for a visit when daddy was born. My father had his middle named legally changed to Mack, but my mother hated that name, and he had to change it back to "McKinley." She called him "Everette." Never underestimate the power of a woman, especially you've been trying for 12 years to marry you! If there is such an NC law, it is not always honored. A short time after finding the Marshall cemetery, Phyllis found a very small cemetery on the edge of a field which had the grave of Milly Waggoner Marshall, and probably the graves of her father Joseph Waggoner and Samuel Waggoner. Phyllis located the owner of the land and asked him to give her time to get the money to put up a fence. When she and a couple of cousins went back, those very old graves had been bulldozed into dust! We suspect that because the Martin Marshall cemetery contains so many graves, the owner is a little more concerned about bringing in a bulldozer. All the best, Odessa | SOUTHERN, Odessa (I41753)

| 30721 | From: PaulVanHoy (PaulVanHoy@aol.com) Monday, August 26, 2002 4:19 PM Elizabeth Vanhoy b. 1812 married William Joseph Dobson 1826. This one got real interesting, I believe the marriage bond shows him as Joseph and land sales deed in Martin County Indiana shows him as William but other numerous court documents at Martin County show him as Joseph. Of real interest was a charge or complaint that followed him from Floyd County, Indiana questioning the use of an alias. Court hearing was constantly continued possibly because of an illness. the last record of this was around 22 Jan 1830 for a continuance till 14 or 15 Feb 1830 and there is nothing further. Suspicion is that he died during this period. He and Elizabeth did have one male child named James Vanhoy Dobson born abt 1827 and when he came of age he change his middle name to William. there are records of him buying land from his Mother and her second husband Joseph Hays who was also his court appointed guardian. Elizabeth (Vanhoy) Dobson married Joseph Hays on Aug 3, 1830 according to State Records. I have been wanting to get up to Martin County to Love Cemetery and check the Vanhoy Plot to see if there are a couple headstone that may be covered over but with as warm as it has been here in SW Indiana it has really brought out the snakes especially rattlers and a lot of wingless Wasp (commonly called "Cow Killers"). So, I guess I will wait till after the first hard freeze, if we get one. Sincerely: Paul VanHoy Sr. | DOBSON, James Vanhoy (I39496)

Jones. Robert died 8 April, 1996. Kathryn was the daughter of John Caldwell Comstock & Adeline Leonore Earhart. John & Adeline Comstock were married 30 Nov., 1898, Butler Co., Ohio. Kathryn died 24 March 1986, Delaware Co., Ohio. Like you, I could not find a cemetery listed for the burial. My hopes are that since we last texted, that you have been able to learn this location. Sorry for the delay, although I'm retired, it seems my plate of things to do is always full. Kindest regards.
