31203 James W. Huston grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana and attended the University of South Carolina on a Navy ROTC scholarship. He majored in History with a minor in English. During his senior summer he did an exchange cruise with the French Navy then attended the University of Warwick in England to study English Reformation history and English literature. After college he received his Navy wings as a Naval Flight Officer and was assigned to VF-84, the Jolly Rogers on the USS Nimitz. With others in VF-84, he participated in making the movie, The Final Countdown, including flying in numerous scenes and personally filming and directing others. While in the Jolly Rogers he was selected to attend TOPGUN. After leaving active duty he attended the University of Virginia School of Law. He moved to San Diego to join a firm and began flying in the Navy Reserves. After a few years he transferred his reserve duty to Naval Intelligence. He started writing by trying editorials for the San Diego Union-Tribune, writing on current affairs. After many editorials, he decided to try fiction. Like many aspiring writers, neither his first novel nor his second were accepted for publication. But his third was different. It combined all his experience into a compelling story -- military action, political intrigue, and Constitutional Law. He found a clause in the U.S. Constitution that hadn't been used since 1812. He posed the simple question: "What if it was used today? What would happen?" His other novels have built on the same themes. Politics. Law. Military action. Some have more of one area than the others, but they remain true to his style and ask compelling questions while providing a thrilling read. James W. Huston lives in San Diego with his family. HUSTON, James W. (I41542)

31214 John Marion Marshall had twelve children by his wife, Christina Sparger. Then he left his family and went to Texas with another Frankie Pate. There it is reported that he raised another family of twelve children. I have no information about his death or where he is buried.
!Marshall 0241, pp. 1, 9 - This source, a letter from Robert K. Marshall to Gurney Robertson, dated 9/17/1925, sheds some light on John's second wife, Frankie Pate. It says that John wrote a letter to "Uncle Sam" (Samuel Edward Marshall?) and a letter to Martha Eleanor (Marshall) Saunders asking if he could return to Surry County with his "second wife." I am not sure that either letter exists now, or maybe they never did.

!More information - Apparently he and Frankie went to Indianapolis, Indiana. There he met a man who owned a ranch in the area of San Antonio, Texas. The man hired John to go to Texas and look after his ranch. While John was in route to Texas, the man died in Indianapolis.

The census data below places him firmly in San Antonio, Texas in 1880. Apparently, Frankie had died.

Below is ore information from Gilmer Robertson. He sent it to me January 5, 2002 in response to a message I broadcast to my distribution list offering a $100 reward for anyone who could find John.

Dear David, It is nice to get your emails although I seldom respond. I'm not sure if I ever told you this or not (I probably did, but it's been too many years to know) but my Aunt Bettye Marshall Robertson told me that her husband Merlin actaually went to John Marion's grave in Texas. Merlin and Bettye lived in Waco for many years and my recollection is that she said Merlin set out to track his down and met one of John's sons or grandsons-she couldn't remember what town the grave was located in. Merlin and Bettye were cousins-Merlin's grandfather was John Marion and I believe that Bettye was John Marion's great-granddaughter. Bettye died in 1976 and I had talked with her about this probably in the early 70's so I am fuzzy on this one but it seems that John changed his name. I'm pretty sure she said he became just John Marion and dropped the Marshall completely. Well, that should be enought to confuse all of us- perhaps someday all of this will be discovered. Keep up the good work-I could use the $100 to pay for Xmas but I don't think I have the time to do any research. Perhaps we could check all of the death records in the Texas counties. Best regards for the new year, Gil

________________________________
Dear David: My Bryant line is at . I do not have direct evidence of Hannah's birth (such as a birth certificate); I took her date of birth (March 17, 1879) from W.C. Johnson's genealogy. However, I do have a 1900 U.S. census image of the William Bryant household, and Hannah is listed as the oldest child, born in January 1879 (I just now noticed this.) If you'd like, I could send either the entire census page (287 kb) or two close-ups of the family (165 kb and 171 kb). One of the close-ups gives the number of years that Hannah had been in the U.S. (19) and also gives her occupation as photographer. However, it is more likely that she worked as a retoucher of photographs, as in the image I do attach here of the article that appeared in the Streator Monitor. (At that time, 1901, it was unusual for the newspapers to have such articles. Streator had two newspapers at the time, and it was only by sheer luck that I found the article on microfilm.) I find it interesting to note that W.C. Johnson's parents both died in Streator. I wonder what brought them to Streator from Kansas. If you have any other interest in the Bryant family, I will be examining the LDS microfilm for the parish in which many of the Bryants and Mosses were born in Bristol. Very best regards, Tim Bryant (tpbryant9@yahoo.com )

An image of Hannah Bryantâ??s newspaper wedding article was attached to the email above. It is in the unnumbered documents scanned images folder. The document name is: Bryant, Hannah - Wedding article. Tim also sent me an image of the census record of Hannahâ??s family. It is in the same folder and is named: Bryant, Hannah - 1900 Census. The information below came from Timâ??s web site.
