I am a descendant of Charles Crawford Lewis Sr, who was born in Albemarle County, Virginia on 26-May-1761, married Elizabeth Russell in October 1785 in Rutherford County, and died 13-December-1833.
There are different exact dates for Charles and Elizabeth's marriage --- I suspect some folks are using the ceremony date, some folks are using the date registered at the courthouse, and some folks are rounding to 1786 without using a month or a day.
Richard Lewis, presumably Charles' brother, was his bondsman for the marriage. Charles' father had already died by 1785.
The dates for Charles' birth and death come from Charles' gravemarker.
Elizabeth Russell died 22-October-1851 per her gravemarker.
Charles Crawford Lewis Sr's father, John Lewis, wrote his will in October 1779 and it was processed in April 1782 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. It has been published that John Lewis died in January 1784 in Albemarle County, Virginia. I don't believe that John's will would have been processed over a year prior to his death, so I believe that the published date of January 1784 is an error. I believe John died between October 1779 and April 1782... most likely January 1782.
Charles Crawford Lewis Sr and Elizabeth Russell reportedly had 13 children, although only 12 of the children's names are commonly known.
