NOTES FROM A LETTER FROM FRANK E. COCKERHAM 10/15/97
I have since learned from a reader of the articles that decendants of Abel Sparks and Sarah "Cockran" believe that Sarah's father was Humphrey Cockran or Cockerham of Wilkes County because Abel Sparks was living on contiguous property to Humphrey on 25 Jan, 1800 ( Deed book GH pg.26); and on 12 Dec 1801 a deed from Humphrey to Abel Sparks was made for 150 acres for 100 pounds (Deed Book F1 p. 183)...
Notes from Dorothy L. Creely in a e-mail Nov. 1 1997:
My ancestor, Sarah Cockerham, born abt.1780 in Wilkes Co. NC probably married Abel Sparks in Wilkes Co. abt. 1800. They moved about 1807 to Franklin Co. TN, then to Bond Co. Illinois about 1820, finally settling in Grant Co. Wisconsin about 1832. I have the feeling she is the daughter of Daniel Cockerham Jr. She is a cousin of Francis Cockerham Hurt. (maybe).... My notes on Abel Sparks is quite complete.
