The stream in the picture is Grassy Creek and the today location is over near Shoals or northwest of Pilot Mountain. There is also an old Wolff-Wolfe cemetery there on that farm. The buildings in the picture were torn down in abt 1880 and a new brick dwelling built at that time. The brick structure stands today I understand where the old house stood.

The Wolfe family here was William Wesley Wolfe, B June 18, 1837, D Feb 24, 1876 and his wife Elizabeth Davis, B Unknown, D unknown. They were married Oct. 29, 1825 and had 8 children. Sixth child Sarah Wolff married Frank Butner and they had a son named Henry Wolfe Butner who became a Military officer and eventually a General. Two significant items were a camp named for him which is Camp Butner or Fort Bragg, and a ship named for him the USS General Butner. I would be glad to tie all this together for you and just can't do it in an e-mail.
I would love to show you these places mentioned above. Just let me know when you might want to go, for me fall of year after the weather cools some would be better. Regards, The Elkin Bridge Man Joe
